It was pretty much a total transformation (pictures on our blog). Along with our 18 trees we added strawberry plants and the kids loved picking their own fruit. Even Oliver would join in the fun--although he managed to find the green ones more often than the ripe red ones!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"> &nbsp;</span></span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">Isaac will turn 8 in February and is excited to be baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints. He is reading his scriptures and getting ready for his big day. This year he tried out flag football and to his mom's horror, truly LOVED it! She doesn't think she can handle watching him play tackle so she will insist he wears a flag around his waist for the rest of his football days. Isaac loves his friends and wants to play with them all day every day. Most recently he acted in our ward Christmas play and decided he loves everything about the acting life except the singing!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"> &nbsp; &nbsp; </span></span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">Luke will turn 6 in March and is a huge Pokémon fan. He is still a scientist most days, but has gotten better about turning every corner of the house into his science laboratory. He is in love with Kindergarten and also enjoys reading, playing Magic Tree House on the computer, and making Oliver laugh. He has become our pickiest eater and eats mostly apples, pickles and water--we only wish we were kidding. If you want to experience a frustrated mommy, please come to our house for dinner. Good thing he is cute!!</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"> &nbsp; </span></span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="white-space: pre;"><br /></span></span></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span style="font-family: Cambria;">Ruby will tell you that her birthday is after Jesus' birthday. She will be turning 3 on January 2nd. Ruby is still a pink fan and claims she loves anything that is pink. Most recently, someone spit (outside) and she asked </span><span style="font-family: Cambria;">“what </span><span style="font-family: Cambria;">was that?” That somebody said, "Phlegm". She then decided that she wouldn't like that phlegm, but she would like pink phlegm and we should buy her some at the store. This is just ONE of her many pink stories </span><span style="font-family: Cambria;">– </span><span style="font-family: Cambria;">they are often hilarious and usually cute. She also loves dolls, dance class with her friends, her blankets, and shows. He especially loves to empty our kitchen and bathroom drawers. His newest trick is climbing on top of the dining table and screaming for us all to notice his skill. He is great at cheesing for the camera and his first word was actually "cheese"--for the camera! He thinks every animal growls and he knows exactly when to say "uh-oh" and says it often but not as often as the word "NOOOOO!" His favorite toys right now are Zhu Zhu pets. And I thought I might explain my thoughts...since everyone one knows how profound and important they are:)<br /><br />It is very simple. I had a doctor for Isaac and a doctor for Luke and both times they are in and out and are very nice but really are only there to get the job done as quickly as possible. Stirrups, wires, medicine, etc...anything to make the job FASTER. I decided to try a midwife with Ruby and absolutely LOVED my experience. I deliver at a hospital (would never ever even consider doing it at home---first of all I do not want all that mess in my house---but there are many many other reasons as well). For me, a midwife means the birthing experience is all about me and my baby. Doesn't matter what makes life easier for the doc or nurse...all that matters is what I want. <span style="font-weight: bold;">YES</span> I want that epidural...<span style="font-weight: bold;">NO </span>I do not want stirrups:). I love that the midwife is my advocate and when the nurse says no, you can't stand up, just lay there--my midwife will pipe in, of course she can stand up if that is more comfortable. The nurse admitted the only reason she wanted me in the bed was because it was easier for her.<br /><br />All of this being said I also LOVE doctors. The REAL ones:) I like to call the midwifes view of medicine "granola medicine." I guess another term could be Holistic medicine--which I believe is mostly mind over matter and since I have no trust in it whatsoever, it doesn't work for me. Pretty much, I do not trust most medical advice the midwives give me--true medical advice...not the little stuff...they aren't that bad with the little stuff. But I pretty much just use them for the delivery part and save all the medical advice for the doctors. That being said--if I had complications during my pregnancies, or deliveries, I would choose to use a doctor--but I don't, my pregnancies and deliveries are healthy and normal. There is of course, a doctor that could step in at any time so if there were a complication, we can have some back up--but since I feel that most skill from deliveries comes from experience, I don't worry too much. So that is my bit on Doc Vs. Midwifes. I just like to pick and choose when to use each kind!<br /><br />My great grandma was a midwife and there are lots of doctors in my family so I love both:)<br /><br />I guess I am going off on this because the most granola midwife (who I actually really really like) ordered me to have ANOTHER (this was my 3rd one) ultrasound that was pointless. The baby has dropped and that is the ONLY reason I am measuring 4 weeks behind again (I could have told her that!)--I am due in 10 days so I was not happy about having to go do another ultrasound for no reason--we have to pay for these! The baby is fine and measures the exact same as Luke if he/she was born today (Luke was induced 9 days early because of the same issue they were worried about with this baby--but I had a doctor then and after the non stress test she said, "I'm not worried but if you want, I will induce you." HECK YES I SAID! But the midwifes are NOT like that.
